Web sites can be beautiful without sacrificing usability or functionality. This is best achieved by clearly defining the project's purpose from the start of the design. Many web sites are created and published without clearly identifying goals, which often results in less than effective results. Knowing established goals gives designers the ability to build towards meetings expectations from the beginning of the project.

A website that is aesthetically pleasing is not always effective. To be effective, a design should deliver valuable content and function, not distract or confuse users. Clients usually present content in a raw form that is not ready for publishing. It is the web designers task to consult with site owners to refine and structure content in a way that best meets the purpose of the site.
